Masters of linen Test Certification
From 15 September 2025, Masters of LINEN™ is evolving into an audited certification system designed to respond to growing expectations around traceability, transparency, innovation and regulatory compliance. The certification is checked by independent certification bodies and includes, among other areas, Traceability & Transparency, textile know-how, Business Integrity, and Sustainability—with a phased rollout through 2026.
At the standard level, Masters of LINEN™ is built on four founding principles: two essential, non-negotiable pillars (Transparency & Traceability and Excellence & Expertise) and two progressive pillars (Business Ethics & Integrity and Sustainability) to support continuous improvement. Traceability follows a Chain of Custody approach and is supported through documentation and invoice evidence; in addition, the Flax-Linen Traceability Platform by TextileGenesis™ (Lectra Group) may be introduced in phases from January 2026.

Masters of LINEN™ Certification – Requirements
Who can be certified (companies)?
- Scope: European spinners, fancy spinners, weavers and knitters.
- Geography: certified companies (HQ & certified sites) are European; certified product steps (including subcontractors) are in Europe = EU + UK + Switzerland (with one exception: a Tunisian site linked to a founding spinner).
- Proven expertise: HQ established in Europe for at least 15 years; sites typically have at least 5 years’ experience in the certified activity (or 3 years in certain group/site cases).
- Sourcing commitment:
- Spinners: at least 70% of total linen supplies from Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certified fibres.
- Fancy spinners / weavers / knitters: at least 55% from Masters of LINEN™ certified yarns/fabrics.
- Audit requirement: annual verification audits and implementation of traceability requirements.
Key product rules (in brief)
- Chain of Custody across the value chain under the certification rules for each stage.
- Composition: made from 100% Masters of LINEN™ certified flax/linen (no blending with other flax-linen types) and at least 50% linen
or “linen union” with at least 40% linen / 60% cotton. - Invoice proof: certificate number, composition, and the wording “Masters of LINEN™ certified” for each certified item.
Masters of LINEN™ Certification – Test / Assessment
The website does not describe a classic “test” (e.g., a written exam). Instead, certification is ensured through verification, including:
- Independent audits (including annual verification audits).
- Traceability checks based on the Chain of Custody principle and the relevant scope rules.
- Composition tests (if required): for certain companies, composition tests may be required; the Alliance lists accredited laboratories for these tests.
Masters of LINEN™ Certification – Price
Official pricing information is described as several components:
- Membership: applicants must become members of the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp. Membership fees vary depending on the activity and the importance of the linen business (details via direct contact).
- Audit costs: an indicative annual cost for certification bodies Centrocot and Centexbel is around €400/year + travel expenses.
- Trademark/logo use: trademark/logo use is described as free of charge for certified companies (and for brands/retailers under the stated conditions) — no licensing fees.
